What we collect
FlipMap uses an opaque anonymous-participant cookie that lasts up to one year. A separate first-party preference cookie remembers whether you selected the USA or Türkiye arena. We use coarse state or province information supplied by our hosting edge, not GPS or precise location. We immediately transform participant and IP values with keyed hashes before storing them; we do not retain raw IP addresses in the application database.
We record battle interactions such as page views, votes, shares, selected states, replay use, referral/UTM values, and a 30-second visible-engagement event. If you request a result alert, we store a keyed email hash plus an encrypted copy of the address needed for delivery.
If you optionally connect X after voting, X provides your account ID, public handle, display name, and avatar URL. FlipMap uses these fields to verify and display captain status. We do not request offline access and do not store X access or refresh tokens.
If you explicitly enable flip alerts after voting, we store a keyed hash and encrypted copy of the browser Push subscription endpoint and encryption keys, plus the state/team follow choices derived from your recorded vote. Next-battle matchup picks are stored without a Push endpoint, email address, or public identity attached to analytics.
Why we use it
We use this information to enforce one free vote per battle, limit abuse, resolve the state or province where a vote applies, operate and reconstruct battles, send requested emails, deliver requested flip alerts, diagnose failures, and understand whether people participate, share, and return. FlipMap results are entertainment and are not scientific polling.
Service providers
Vercel hosts the application and provides coarse network geography and web analytics. Neon hosts PostgreSQL data. Resend sends requested emails and reports delivery outcomes. X processes an optional identity connection when you choose it. Browser push services operated by Apple, Google, Mozilla, or your browser vendor route alerts when you opt in. These providers process information to provide their services to FlipMap. We do not sell personal information.
Retention and choices
Immutable public battle events and frozen results may be retained as permanent battle history. Operational, anonymous analytics, rate-limit, and subscription records are kept as needed to operate and evaluate the service. Unsubscribing stops future messages for that vote; a minimal suppression record may remain so the request continues to be honored.
You can block or remove FlipMap cookies in your browser. Removing the participant cookie may affect duplicate-vote enforcement; removing the arena preference resets navigation to the coarse-country/default choice. Every result email includes an unsubscribe mechanism. Flip alerts can be turned off in the battle panel or in browser notification settings. To ask about, correct, or delete information associated with your email or connected X identity, contact hello@flipmap.lol.
Children and changes
FlipMap is not directed to children under 13, and children under 13 should not submit an email address. We may update this notice as the product changes and will update the effective date on this page.
